Seiko Instruments Inc. (SII) announced today plans to develop, manufacture and market Varioptic’s Liquid Lens products, offering a cost advantage for auto-focus.
Varioptic’s liquid lens feature many advantages over competing technologies in terms of cost, size, robustness, power consumption, silent operation and speed. These advantages position liquid lenses for the emerging camcorder phone market where continuous auto-focus for video is a sought after feature.
SII production capacity plan is expected to reach 0.5 million units per month by 3Q of 2008 and will expand mass production capacity according to market needs. This agreement builds on an existing production capacity for Arctic 314 and Arctic 416 liquid lenses designed for 5.0-megapixel, 1/3-inch and 1/4-inch format camera modules.

The Sony Ericsson T303 is a sleek looking stylish slider with metallic and reflective finish. It features a built-in 1.3 megapixel digital with 4x digital zoom, allowing you to snap pictures on the go. The phone features a nice multimedia section with built-in digital music player and RDS FM radio.
On the other hand, the phone has some downfalls. First is its low-end LCD screen that only supports up to 128×160 pixels and second the phone has only 8MB of internal memory and no card slot. So don’t expect to take that many pictures with each picture using up 400-500KB.

The Helio phone is very small and defiantly stylish, loaded with some of the best features like 2.2′ screen (320×240), 2.0 mega pixel camera and 3G capabilities. Expect it to come decked out with a 262k color QVGA display, “semi-auto” bi-directional swinging hinge, MicroSD, 70MB of flash memory, stereo speakers, and, of course, EV-DO. All in all I hear it’s a cool phone except for some software issues pointed out by PC Mag. $250
