Sony Ericsson’s latest multimedia-centric phone seems to be a serious iPhone contender with its HD-capable, 8.1 Megapixel camera which can shoot 720p video. It also flaunts 8GBs of storage, a 3.2” screen, out of the box Facebook and Twitter integration, and a plethora of other bells and whistles, which most likely will make it popular.

Sony Ericsson’s Elm is now officially a part of the Greenheart line, which popularly is the company’s “project to make handsets from recycled plastics and free from hazardous chemicals to help reduce CO2 emissions.” On the green side the Elm will have E-manuals, and EP300 Greenheart wall charger, a WalkMate application that allows its users to “compare the steps they take with the equivalent journey by car”, and also a Green calculator, which calculates how much CO2 they save through walking.

As a phone the Elm is a candybar device and has a 2.2-inch QVGA display, 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, HSDPA connectivity, Wi-Fi, GPS, Google Maps, social networking integration for Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, push e-mail, and 280MB of internal memory with microSD card support.

Sony Ericsson’s all-new Idou will probably generate as much hype as the original XPERIA. Not only Idou is the first 12 megapixel GSM cameraphone, it’s also the very first device to ever feature the brand new open source Symbian user interface which is still being developed by the Symbian Foundation. Additional boastworthy features of the phone include a 3.5-inch crisp looking touchscreen with a resolution of 360 x 640 pixels, a GPS, Wi-Fi and most important of them the phone is relatively compact and is quite ergonomic to use. The Sony Ericsson Idou is quite an impressive and novel package.
